A Little Bit of Charm City in Honolulu

So this morning at precisely around 8:36 a.m., I was on my way to the jrs. store and I crossed paths with Ace of Cake celeb chef Duff Goldman! For serious, he was wearing his hockey jersey with his usual backwards blue hat. I was too in shock to say anything. I really wish Mary Alice or Geof was with him. I think Geof is adorable. It pretty much made my morning.

I want Charm City Cakes to do my bride's cake when I get married, it's like a groom's cake but for a bride. I want it to be an Ernie and Bert themed cake, I'd go into detail but I don't want people (meaning the two people who actually read this blog) to steal my idea.

It was 40 years ago today...

The Beatles played on the roof of their Apple's headquarters in Savile Row, London. It was the last live concert together ever. Check out George's green pants and fur coat, love it. There is a bootleg film of the concert and "Let It Be" studio sessions out, you can snippets of it on youtube. In some of the clips you can feel tension between the group, and it's sad watching it when you know the outcome of the group. The rooftop concert marks the end of an era.

Today in London they were allowing Beatles fans to go on top of the roof. I wish I was there.

"I'd like to say 'thank you' on behalf of the group and ourselves, and I hope we passed the audtion!" -John Lennon, at the end of the concert.

American Idol Shmidol

I will have to admit, I am not the biggest American Idol fan. You would think I would considering how much a sucker I am for top 40 pop music. People always ask me who my pick is... frankly I don't care. That is until 6 months later when one singer strikes up my fancy. Point in case, Kelly Clarkson, whom I fell in love with after she won. Yesterday at work my co-worker had her iPod plugged in and David Cook's version on "Always Be My Baby" came on. I was impressed. So much impressed that I couldn't figure out where I heard that song before. David Cook's version of one of my Mariah Carey favorites was so different I didn't even  recognize it. Everyone has probably heard this performance but click the link to check it out.

The new season of American Idol has started. Apparently there are a lot fans of the show in the sports department, so we have been watching it for the past two weeks, who knows I may actually get into it this year.

Onto other idol news... Kelly Clarkson's new single "My Life Would Suck Without You" is out! And YAY it seems like the old Kelly Clarkson is BAAACK. Love it! I'm really looking forward to her new album!

What's in a name

Parent magazine put out the list of top ten baby names for 2008, my name didn't make it this year, but I did come in at number 13. Which means there will be more girls out there with my name... Sarah is a pretty awesome name, here's the 411 on Sarah (my name, not exactly me):

Sarah
ORIGIN: Hebrew
MEANING: Princess

In the Old Testament, Sarah was the wife of Abraham and the mother of Isaac. God changed her name from Sarai to Sarah when she was 90 years old. An enduring name that has been generally listed among the top 100 names since prior to the turn of the 20th century. Famed jazz singer Sarah Vaughan kept the name in front of the public during a career that spanned six decades. Sarah-Jane has been a popular combination since the late 1960s.

VARIATIONS: Sal
ALTERNATIVES: Sarra Serah Saira Sara Sairah Sarrah Sera
NICKNAMES: Sari
FAMOUS Sarahs: Sarah McLachlan (singer/songwriter) Sarah Jessica Parker (actress) Sarah Ferguson (Duchess of York) Sarah Evans (country singer) Sarah Michelle Gellar (actress) Sarah Hughes (Olympic ice skater)

I always wonder what I would name my kids, right now all I have is Riley (for a girl or boy) and Ichiro or Ichihime for the middle names. I'm pretty much set on the Ichiro or Ichihime (I just had to incorporate my FAVORITEST baseball player).

Time for a Change

Obama's campaign was ALL about change. AND this year I am taking that to heart, starting with my room. I haven't really changed up my room since I've moved into it 3 years ago, sure I've added risers to my bed, changed the lay out, added a book case, got rid of a LOT of clothes, started taking the hundreds of Andy Irons posters and banners and added >gasp< photographs of New York City architecture and landscape.... BUT it still feels cramped. It still looks like I'm in college, maybe it's my horseshoe bed sheets and the big Hello Kitty sitting on my bed. Yes I am overwhelmed with the mess, I figure I will always be a little messy, closet space will ALWAYS be an issue, but I can at least try to make the most of my space. I think it's time to purge the empty liquor bottles that used feel like a prized trophy, a night of accomplishment and good times of finishing off a bottle of Crown. I don't need to keep EVERY baseball I found at Les Murakami Stadium when I used to be an usher in college. Or all the UH Athletic media guides I stole from working at the athletic department. When will I ever use a discman player. And when will I really need my notes from Geography 101 or Psychology of Human Sexuality.
My roommate/bff Anna got a new bed for Christmas so it forced her to clean her room. For me I think I just need a fresh start in 2009.

I'll post photos of my detoxed room soon!

The 2008 hate

2008 was a rough year. I went from happy newspaper part-timer/billabong full-timer to newspaper full-timer/billabong part-timer and just when I thought I've found my career niche now I'll be back to newspaper part-timer/billabong full-timer. I've changed my health insurance 3 times (4 of you count the three months I was on COBRA). My boyfriend said he was going to move back to Maui in May to end up only coming back 2 weeks later to finish school then move back to Maui for good in October. I paid $60 bucks at the gas pump to fill up my '99 Camry. And the worst part was losing my dear Grammsy.

I know, I know, my year could've been way worse, and I am grateful for everything in my life that didn't go wrong. It's just that overall, it was a pretty crappy year. The year wasn't a total waste I did get to see Chris Breezy in concert, fell in love with Gossip Girl, went to my first Birthday Bash, voted for Barrack Obama, my Project Runway pick finally won, got a blackberry, saw HSM3 in theaters, and whoa did Lauren and Heidi actually have a civil conversation last week on the Hills?!?

I'm SO ready for 2008 to be over, only about 14 hours left. Time for a new year and a fresh positive start.
